Daylight Darkroom Starter Kit

Lyson Printing MediaLyson's Daylight Darkroom system is supplied in starter kit packages that provide the user with everything needed to start printing - all you need to provide is the printer and a suitable computer. For desk top printer models, two types of starter kit are available - a cartridge based starter kit that includes normal single use cartridges filled with the Daylight Darkroom inks, and, for the higher volume user, a starter kit that includes an award winning Lyson bulk ink feed system for reduced running costs. To work out which style of kit is best for you then a good rule of thumb is to calculate the number of black and white prints you will be making - if it is less than 20 letter size prints per week then a cartridge based kit is the way to go. If you will be regularly producing more than 20 prints every week then a bulk feed based kit will save you money compared to using cartridges. If you are not sure then start with the cartridge based kit and you can always upgrade with a bulk feed system (available separately) as your print volume increases. For the larger Epson Stylus Pro 4000/7600/9600 printers, starter kits are only available that include pre-filled 220 ml ink cartridges.
Unique Monochrome Print Driver Software
In the Daylight Darkroom system, a specially developed software package is used in place of the standard Epson print driver on the user's host computer- giving the user complete control over every ink channel on the printer to provide absolute continuous tone printing. The way that the driver and ink system work in conjunction with each other means that the printer is using a minimum of four shades of black and maximum of seven shades of black at any one time during printing.

Daylight Darkroom software has two distinct but linked modules: Print Pro™ and Profile Creator™. Find out more about the Lyson Daylight Darkroom Software

Black and White Prints that Last a Life Time
Lyson Quad Black ink sets are renowned for their quality and longevity. Independent testing of these inks by Wilhelm Imaging Research, Inc. indicates an estimated display life of in excess of 100 years in average indoor display conditions. The Daylight Darkroom system uses a new seven ink combination of the Quad Black ink set that enables users to produce images in a variety of tonal effects from warm through neutral to cool.

Lyson Quad Black inks are dye-based, which runs against the recent trend towards pigmented inks in photographic inkjet printing. However, with the proven longevity of Lyson's exclusive black dye technology rivaling most pigmented ink sets, the benefits of using dye-based inks in monochrome printing can be fully leveraged for:
Deep rich blacks
D-max potential of greater than 4 (the best pigmented inks can only achieve around 1.8)
The ability to print on gloss media without bronzing (i.e., gloss differential) - currently impossible with pigmented inks
Bottom line, Lyson's Daylight Darkroom Quad Black inks are the only product available that can mimic traditional silver halide processes on the surfaces that photographers want to use.
